heavy nettles

Hoops Residency, with Olivier Hannoun and Lisa Herms, Libken, 2023

Heavy Nettles is a performative research project centered on the stinging nettle in the Libken garden. The project develops a toolbox to explore the nettle both analytically and aesthetically, combining stethoscopic examinations, botanical and cartographic surveys, and research-based analysis.

By engaging closely with this remarkable plant, the work investigates its stories of healing, resistance, and coexistence, questioning how it has been stigmatized as a weed for centuries. Heavy Nettles invites participants to consider the overlooked lives of plants, their connections to other beings, and the knowledge they hold.
