Artistic Ecologies*

Event series, co-curated with Margarete Kiss, Ralf Wedekind and Juan- Camillo AlfonsoSummer program, co-curated with Margarete Kiss, Ralf Wedekind and Juan- Camillo Alfonso, station urbaner kulturen, nGbK Berlin

Artistic Ecologies* uses artistic means and involves the neighborhood to create a sustainable educational space. Here, the themes of education, participation, networking and ecology are embedded in a global context and addressed from global, decolonial and collective perspectives. To this end, a former trade fair pavilion from 1971 will be converted into a classroom in the countryside together with the Konrad-Wachsmann-Schule and the Bildungsverein Bautechnik on Place Internationale, the green space not far from the station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf. The pavilion will later be made available as a learning and meeting place for school classes and interested groups. It is thus exemplary of a school that reflects its ecological environment and its neighborhood in its interactions and diversity.

Three artistic interventions activate this new educational space. Through locally harvested food and cooking, joint cooking performances, including with Sujatro Ghosh and local cooking groups, initiatives and institutions from the district, create a network.

With the help of collaborative film and sound works created in workshops in Colombia and Hellersdorf, the group rampe:aktion translates decolonial concepts and practices of urban resistance from Latin America into audio-visual stories in exchange with residents of the green space. Marina Resende Santos and Margarete Kiss acquired the Place Internationale in a project week with the 7th grade of the Caspar David Friedrich School in Hellersdorf. Using an outdoor laboratory and playful artistic methods, pupils will measure the CO₂ binding of plants in the green space, learn to recognize plant species and sharpen their perception of the area and the environment.

The project will be thematically complemented by an open-air summer cinema on the green space. The selection of films curated by Florian Wüst presents international perspectives from the Global South that deal with ecology, the right to land, education and relationships between people and nature.
